ABOUT ABOUT

43.6% of Philadelphia’s population is Black, yet only one black chef was recognized in this years top restaurants. Why aren’t there more people of color in our culinary leadership and how can we influence change in the landscape?

Join us on September 9th from 6-9 pm to sit fireside for a live taping of The Chef Radio Podcast with former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Chef Eli Kulp.

  • Sit fireside with Mayor Michael Nutter and discuss his experience in leading the city.
  • Discuss topics related to the gap between our city's population makeupadn the landscape of restaurant leadership.

  • Discuss the food crisis in the Black community and how people’s relationship with food, fast food, and access to healthy food, leads to a lack of access in the food system or culinary community.

  • Eat bites and meet chefs Elijah Milligan, Barbie Marshall, Gera Robinson and Demarcus Sumpter who will be joining in the discussion and preparing food from those in attendance.

  • Christa Barfield from Farmer Jawn will be supplying the chefs with produce to use for the event.

Esteemed guest Mayor Michael Nutter believes that food shapes communities. His rare outlook and access to leadership across Philadelphia and the U.S. will make for a great live podcast taping on the topics in the black community related to food matters.

Eli Kulp is the founder of Fork and High Street on Market and has recently launched Impact Hospitality with the platform of Chef Radio Podcast that has had over 30,000 downloads in a short period of time. His passion for helping people find their career and learn how to influence positive change in food and communities has led him to host this topic.
